Creating Creative and Entertaining Items

For this event, volunteers send in creative, interactive, and fun forms of entertainment like short stories, comics, and word puzzles (just to name a few) that they create themselves. These submissions will then be sent to hospitalized children in Chicagoland hospitals.
STEP 1 - CREATE YOUR SUBMISSION
Our goal is to bring smiles and fun to hospitalized children. Create anything that would be interactive and entertaining for a child. Here are some ideas:​
  • Short story
  • Comic
  • Word puzzles
  • Coloring activites
  • Crafts
  • Hand-made board game

***If you have an idea that isn't listed and you would like to make sure that it would be accepted, and/or you want to clarify something, please email us at grins4kids.nfp@gmail.com

Note: Covid-19 Precautions - You must wash your hands and preferably wear gloves while making your item(s). Also, we ask that you wear a mask during the process as well.

Things to keep in mind:
  • Make sure it is child-appropriate
  • Keep in mind our age range of 5-17
  • Please do not use glitter or anything that can easily rub off/hurt someone for the safety of the children
  • If you do not follow these guidelines we will not be able to send out your submission to the children

STEP 3 - SEND IN YOUR SUBMISSION
Instructions on how to send us your submission:​
  • Please include a piece of paper in your envelope that says "I volunteered through Grins 4 Kids" and your name
  • If you had a certain age group in mind while making your submission, please include it on the piece of paper in the envelope 
  • Please send your envelope to 488 Thorndale Dr, Buffalo Grove, IL, 60089

STEP 4 (OPTIONAL) - RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION 
Instructions on how to receive a certificate of appreciation:
  • Send us an email at grins4kids.nfp@gmail.com with photos of your submission and, preferably, with you creating it. In the email, please let us know if you would be comfortable giving us permission to display your photos on our website gallery and/or social media platforms. We would love to share them!​
  • In the subject line of the email please type the following: "Your name - Certificate of Appreciation"
  • In the email, please include the number of hours you worked on your submission
  • We will get back to you with your certificate of appreciation as soon as possible
